The IBC Bin Cleaning and Drying Machine is designed for cleaning and drying interchangeable IBC bins, powder mixing containers, transfer hoppers, stainless steel drums and other containers used in pharmaceutical, food, chemical and powder processing industries.
For an IBC bin blender system, one blender may be equipped with several interchangeable bins of different capacities. For example, a 2000L IBC Bin Mixing Machine may work with 500L, 1000L, 1500L or 2000L bins depending on the production requirements.
This flexible production method improves equipment utilization and reduces material transfer. However, it also creates an important challenge: how to efficiently clean and completely dry different IBC bins between batches to prevent cross-contamination.
Hywell Machinery has developed a compact and practical IBC Bin Washing and Drying Machine to solve this problem.
The machine uses a movable or adjustable cleaning head to clean the internal surfaces of containers. After washing and rinsing, the system can automatically switch to hot-air drying to remove residual water from the inside of the bin.
The same cleaning machine can also be customized for different sizes and types of containers, providing a multi-purpose cleaning and drying solution instead of purchasing a separate washing machine for every container size.
IBC bin blenders are widely used in pharmaceutical, food and chemical production because the mixing container itself can be used for both powder blending and material transportation.
The IBC bin can be removed from the blender after mixing and replaced with another prepared bin. This allows mixing, filling, transportation and cleaning to be carried out independently, improving production flexibility.
However, after a batch is completed, residual powder may remain on:
Internal walls of the IBC bin
Mixing blades
Bottom discharge valve
Corners and transition areas
Lid and sealing areas
Other product-contact surfaces
If different products are processed in the same bin, insufficient cleaning can create a risk of cross-contamination.
Manual washing is possible for small-scale applications, but it can be time-consuming and difficult to achieve consistent cleaning results.
The Hywell IBC cleaning system provides a more convenient solution by combining washing, rinsing and hot-air drying in one machine.
One of the key advantages of this system is its ability to handle different container sizes.
For example, a customer may have:
500L IBC bins
1000L IBC bins
1500L IBC bins
2000L IBC bins
Different-shaped transfer hoppers
Stainless steel drums
Plastic containers
Instead of purchasing a dedicated cleaning machine for each container, the cleaning station can be designed with an adjustable cleaning head and flexible positioning system according to the customer's container dimensions.
This makes the system particularly suitable for factories using multiple interchangeable IBC bins.
The principle is similar to modern IBC washing systems, where different container sizes can be processed using adjustable or interchangeable cleaning arrangements.
The standard cleaning process can be configured as follows:
Move the dirty IBC bin to the cleaning station and position it under the cleaning head.
The cleaning station can be customized according to the size and structure of the customer's bins.
The cleaning head is lowered into the IBC bin.
High-pressure water is sprayed through the cleaning nozzle to remove powder residue and other contaminants from the internal surfaces.
The cleaning pressure, flow rate, cleaning time and spray configuration can be customized according to the material and cleaning requirements.
For materials that are difficult to remove using water alone, an alkaline cleaning solution can be used.
The machine can be equipped with a dedicated alkaline water tank for circulating or supplying cleaning solution.
The actual cleaning procedure can be configured according to the customer's material characteristics and cleaning requirements.
After alkaline cleaning, purified water can be used for final rinsing.
The rinsing process removes remaining detergent and material residues from the internal surfaces.
After washing and rinsing, residual water remains inside the IBC bin.
Instead of waiting for natural drying, the cleaning system can switch to a hot-air drying mode.
Heated air is introduced into the container through the cleaning/drying head to remove moisture from the internal surfaces.
This significantly reduces the waiting time before the IBC bin is returned to production.
Hywell's existing IBC bin blender information also describes the integrated cleaning and hot-air drying process as an option for automatically cleaning and drying the hopper.
After the programmed washing, rinsing and drying cycles are completed, the cleaned IBC bin can be removed from the station and returned to the production area.
The complete process can be controlled through a PLC control system.
The standard system can include the following components:
Provides heated water for the cleaning process.
The tank capacity can be customized according to the required cleaning volume and production capacity.
Provides purified water for the final rinsing process.
For pharmaceutical applications, the water quality and tank material can be customized according to the customer's requirements.
Stores alkaline cleaning solution for removing stubborn powder residues, oils or other contaminants.
The tank can be designed according to the customer's cleaning process.
The high-pressure pump provides the required water pressure for the cleaning nozzles.
Pump capacity and pressure are selected according to the bin size, nozzle configuration and cleaning requirements.
The cleaning head can be raised or lowered according to the height of the IBC bin.
Different spray heads or cleaning nozzles can be selected according to the container geometry.
After washing, the system supplies heated air to dry the internal surface of the container.
The drying temperature can be adjusted according to the material of the bin and the product requirements.
The PLC control system can be used to control:
Washing time
Rinsing time
Water temperature
Alkaline cleaning cycle
Cleaning pressure
Drying temperature
Drying time
Cleaning and drying sequence
Different cleaning recipes can be configured for different types of containers.
Although the system is mainly designed for IBC bin cleaning, its application is not limited to IBC bins.
With a suitable cleaning head and positioning structure, the same machine can also be used for:
Stainless steel bins
Powder transfer containers
Stainless steel drums
Plastic containers
Mixing hoppers
Granulation containers
Powder handling containers
Irregular-shaped containers
This makes the system a practical multi-purpose container washing and drying machine for factories with different types of process containers.
For example, pharmaceutical cleaning systems can also be configured for bins, drums, pallets, lids, valves and other product-contact components.
Hywell Machinery can design the cleaning station according to the customer's actual container dimensions.
The following information is normally required before designing the system:
IBC bin capacity
Overall dimensions
Container opening diameter
Container material
Internal structure
Bottom valve design
Type of material being processed
Initial contamination/residue condition
Required cleaning method
Required drying temperature
Required cleaning cycle time
Required production capacity
Customers can therefore use the same cleaning platform for different container sizes instead of being restricted to one fixed IBC specification.

The biggest advantage is not simply saving labor. It is making the cleaning process more repeatable while reducing the time that the IBC bin remains unavailable for production. | ||
Hywell Machinery can provide different sizes of IBC bin cleaning machines according to the customer's container dimensions and cleaning capacity.
Model | Recommended Container Capacity | Application |
MC-500 | Up to approx. 500L IBC bins | Small and medium production |
MC-1000 | Up to approx. 1000L IBC bins | Medium production |
Customized | 1000–2000L or larger | Multiple IBC sizes / special containers |
Note: The actual cleaning machine size should be selected according to the external dimensions, opening size, internal geometry and cleaning requirements of the customer's container, rather than only the nominal IBC volume.
For factories using an IBC Bin Blender, the mixer itself is only one part of the complete powder handling system.
The real production challenge often comes after mixing: how to clean, dry and reuse the IBC bin efficiently.
Hywell Machinery can provide an integrated solution covering:
IBC Bin Blender → Multiple IBC Bins → IBC Bin Cleaning → Pure Water Rinsing → Hot-Air Drying → Ready for Next Batch
This approach allows manufacturers to use multiple interchangeable bins while maintaining a practical cleaning workflow.
Hywell Machinery can customize the cleaning system according to the customer's IBC bin size, material, product characteristics, cleaning procedure and production requirements.
