Drying materials

Pharmaceutical excipients: Main components is kleptose (beta cyclodextrin), peppermint oil, methyl ester of alpha bromisovaleric acid, purified water.


Client Situation

At present, the customer uses a vacuum tray dryer for the methyl ester of alpha bromovaleric acid, the drying temperature is 80 degrees, and the drying time is 20-22 hours per batch. Because the drying efficiency is too low and the drying time is too long. Customers want to change this situation with new vacuum drying machine. The customer learned about the HW series Conical Paddle Dryer that we can dry the heat sensitivity powder by short time through our company website. The client wants our company to solve this situation. The customer lists the detailed requirements for drying temperature, moisture content of dry materials, etc.


Challenge

Because the client is old client that we had supply some machine for them recently years. As our communication with client about the methyl ester of alpha bromisovaleric acid drying technology. They listed the key points of concern of methyl ester of alpha bromovaleric acid dyer, which are also our more challenging technical points.


1. Microwave dryers cannot be adopted

Considering that the microwave will destroy the pharmaceutical ingredients, the microwave vacuum dryer cannot be used for this material. Because microwave vacuum drying not only has a low temperature but also has a fast drying speed, the previous microwave vacuum dryers are very popular drying equipment, and they are gradually not recognized by the market. The main reason is that the microwave will destroy the material composition in the drying process


2. Drying time and drying temperature

Drying temperature is lower than 80C, and drying time is shortly than 5hour per batch.


Raw Materials Mailed

The customer mailed raw materials from Russia, which lasted one and a half months, and finally received the materials. Next, test the material according to the temperature and other requirements required by the customer


Lab Test by Ribbon Vacuum Dryer

Match different kinds of ingredients according to customer requirements to mix the kleptose (beta cyclodextrin), peppermint oil, methyl ester of alpha bromisovaleric acid, purified water.

It set the Conical Screw Vacuum Dryer drying temperature to 80℃, set the rotation motor frequency to 20Hz, set the vacuum degree to -0.09Mpa.

The test result was a failure because the moisture-reduced material started to become sticky after about 30 minutes of drying. The material agglomerates and sticks to the stirring paddle. So the experiment failed.


Conclusion of Test by Conical Screw Vacuum Dryer

The material is viscous after drying some minutes, easy to agglomerate and stick on the rotating shaft during the drying process, which cannot achieve the purpose of drying.


Lab Test by High Efficiency Vacuum Dryer

The experiment of using the Conical Screw Vacuum Dryer failed, considering that the material appeared sticky during the drying process and the drying speed problem should be considered. We use a high efficiency vacuum dryerfor the second test. The proportion of materials and the drying temperature of materials are in accordance with customer requirements.

1. Equipment name: Pulse Vacuum Dryer

2. Detailed steps

① Turn on the power switch, set the temperature to 40℃, set the vacuum degree to -0.08Mpa;

② Open the door, and load the prepared tray into the equipment; (refer to the picture)

③ Close the door and start drying;

④ When the temperature and vacuum degree reach the set value, after drying for a while, a part of the water in the material will be evaporated, and then set the temperature to 75℃, and set the vacuum degree to -0.096Mpa;

⑤ After drying for 1.5hours, check the material, the material is wet and needs to continue drying; (refer to the picture)

⑥ After drying for 1.0 hours, check the material, the material is not completely dry and still needs to continue drying; (refer to the picture)

⑦ After drying for 0.5hours, open the door and check the material, the material is fully drying

Conclusion and Suggestion of Testing by High Efficiency Pulse Vacuum Dryer

Conclusion

1. Drying time: whole drying time: 3hour

2. Final moisture of dried powder: 5% (after testing ).

3. Loading capacity: 3kg wet material per tray

4. Set temperature: 75℃ and the highest working temperature: 77℃;

5. Working vacuum degree: -0.096Mpa.

6. Testing machine: High efficiency Pulse Vacuum shelf Dryer (high efficiency, shortly drying time and low energy consumption).


Suggestion

1. Machine recommend: high efficiency pulse vacuum dryer (if set temperature 90℃ and final 7% moisture, drying time need 2-2.5hour / batch).

2. If it need fine powder, it need to crush into powder by Pin mill.
